One evening, my little brother put a glass bottle on the table, and called for some small flying insects. I could do nothing but catch some for him. He happily called the ones with grey wings “Huihui,” and the ones with transparent wings “Meili.”
He laid the open bottle down on the table, and lit its bottom with a flashlight. Then he looked up at me with a sweet smile, saying, “Sister, I saw someone on TV doing like this. Now I’m giving it a try. Come and have a look.” I leaned toward him with curiosity to see what he was actually doing. At this point, I saw he put Huihui into the bottle, and they immediately flew together to the bright bottom. Although they rebounded from it again and again, they stuck to crashing to it. At last, they all lay near the bottom, dying.
Frowning at them, my brother helplessly shook his head. Then he put Meili into the bottle, and fixed them with a stare. After they flied toward and bounced from the bottom for several times, they changed their direction one after another, trying to look for the right exit. After a while, they flew out of the bottle, free again. My brother was so joyful for them that he ran to the house, happily crying: “Meili are the brightest. Meili are the brightest. …”
Seeing his back, I turned to look at the dying Huihui. They stubbornly took the bottom of the bottle as the unique exit, and even died for it. This reminded me of the failure of the chief priests, scribes, and Pharisees during the Age of Grace: They stubbornly held on to their conception of “The coming Lord is called the Messiah; whoever is not called the Messiah is not be the Lord.” Thus, during the period theworked among them, even though they witnessed that His words had authority and power, that he could perform miracles, and even the fact that His work and preaching shocked the entire Judea, they still didn’t mean to seek or investigate at all. They kept the Messiah’s name in an empty fashion, or rather they kept “the Messiah” these two words. They didn’t care how profound and correct the Lord Jesus’ preachings are, or how much authority or power His words have. As long as His name was not Messiah, they opposed and condemned Him. And finally they joined forces with the Roman government and nailed Him to the cross, committing a heinous crime! Later, the Lord Jesus was resurrected, and when His disciples spread , there were power and miracle along with them. These facts were sufficient to prove that this way had the work and maintenance of the Holy Spirit. However, under such circumstances, they still didn’t reflect on why the Lord Jesus’ gospel preaching was so thriving. On the contrary, they blocked the believers more fiercely from following the Lord Jesus, and strictly prohibited anyone from spreading the Lord Jesus’ name…. Their evil deeds provoked God’s wrath. And as a result, the entire Jewish nation was subjected to destruction. Just as Huihui, who crashed against the bottom time and time again and regardless of life and death, the Pharisees were ignorant, foolish, and stubborn in their actions.
However, those who followed the Lord Jesus, such as the disciples, the Samaritan woman, were different. They could set aside their own notions and seek the new exit, like those clever Meili. For the work of the Lord Jesus, they sought and investigated it with a humble heart. They saw the Lord Jesus heal the sick and cast out demons, perform miracles, and supply people with the truth…. Gradually, through the words and deeds of the Lord Jesus, they saw the fulfillment of the prophecies, and recognized that the Lord Jesus was the coming Messiah. Thus, they followed the Lord Jesus and gained the Lord’s salvation.
Now is the last days. All the brothers and sisters who truly believe in God are longing bitterly for the return of the Lord Jesus. Today, the religious world is suffering famine; calamities are happening all around the world…. All of the predictions of the Lord’s return have basically come true. All manner of signs indicate that the Lord has come back!
However, we have our own opinions on the Lord’s return, for example: “Anyone who does not arrive upon a white cloud is not the Lord Jesus,” “We should stay in our own church”…. Now the great disasters are about to arrive. If we still stick to these opinions, then we, like Huihui holding that the bottom is the exit, will not be able to welcome the return of the Lord, and instead be wounded all over and end up with disappointment, never knowing where the Lord is. Are we truly willing to sit and wait for death all along? Do we not want to follow the example of those wise people like Meili who found the right way, followed Jesus, and gained the Lord’s salvation?
God says, “My sheep hear my voice, and I know them, and they follow me” (John 10:27). “He that has an ear, let him hear what the Spirit says to the churches” (Revelation 2:7). “Ask, and it shall be given you; seek, and you shall find; knock, and it shall be opened to you” (Matthew 7:7). “Behold, I stand at the door, and knock: if any man hear my voice, and open the door, I will come in to him, and will sup with him, and he with me” (Rev 3:20). “Since we are searching for the footprints of God, we must search for God’s will, for the words of God, for the utterances of God—for where there are the new words of God, there is the, and where there are the footsteps of God, there are the deeds of God. Where there is the expression of God, there is the appearance of God, and where there is the appearance of God, there exists the truth, the way, and the life. While seeking the footprints of God, you ignored the words that ‘God is the truth, the way, and the life.’ So when many people receive the truth, they do not believe that they have found the footprints of God and much less acknowledge the appearance of God. What a serious error that is! The appearance of God cannot be reconciled with the conceptions of man, much less can God appear at the behest of man. God makes His own choices and has His own plans when He does His work; moreover, He has His own objectives, and His own methods. It is not necessary for Him to discuss the work He does with man or to seek the advice of man, much less notify each and every person of His work. This is the disposition of God and, moreover, should be recognized by everyone. If you desire to witness the appearance of God, if you wish to follow the footprints of God, then you must first transcend your own conceptions. You must not demand that God do this or that, much less should you place Him within your own confines and limit Him to your own conceptions. Instead, you should ask how you should seek the footprints of God, how you should accept the appearance of God, and how you should submit to the new work of God; that is what should be done by man. Since man is not the truth, and is not possessed of the truth, man should seek, accept, and obey” (The Appearance of God Has Brought a New Age).
When the Lord comes, He will surely utter words and express truths. And the most important point in our searching for the footprints of God is to search for the words of God. Only those who actively search and humbly seek will hear the voice of God, and return before the Lord. In this crucial time, are we going to keep on being a foolish Huihui, or to be a clever Meili? This is a major issue concerning our destiny and outcome.
