Happy Are Those Who Trust in God – Reflection on Proverbs 16:20

Proverbs 16:20

Today’s Gospel

He that handles a matter wisely shall find good: and whoever trusts in the LORD, happy is he. - Proverbs 16:20

Reflection

This verse tells us that only by keeping God’s teachings can we receive His blessings and whoever trusts in God in all things is the happiest. Recollecting my life of believing in God, I always do things according to my will and seldom think whether I do it according to the Lord’s words or whether the Lord is satisfied with it. When encountering things, I also seldom pray to and rely on God. Therefore, I always cannot feel God’s leadership and blessings. For example, the Lord asks us to be honest rather than lie. However, I always told lies and deceived others for my own interests, and even lied to God in my prayer—failing to fulfill most of what I said. The Lord asks us not to judge others. But when I found some brother or sister did something that went against my will or touched upon my interests, I would judge him or her willfully. All this manifested that I did not keep God’s teachings, let alone had reverence for God. I could not help asking myself: Am I a believer in God? How can I receive God’s blessings? What should I do?

Later, I find the way of practice in God’s words. God says, “God is always in the hearts of those who genuinely believe in God and they always carry within them a God-revering heart, a God-loving heart. Those who believe in God should do things with a cautious and prudent heart, and all they do should be in accordance with God’s requirements and be able to satisfy the heart of God. They should not be headstrong, doing whatever they please; that does not befit saintly propriety.
