Study on Philippians 4:13: How to Rely on God to Get His Help

Today’s Gospel

I can do all things through Christ which strengthens me.

In faith and life, everyone will encounter many problems and difficulties that they do not know how to deal with, thereby feeling helpless and hopeless. Those who truly believe in God will come before God and rely on Him to solve their problems. Therefore, many people like to read this verse, and hope that when they encounter problems and difficulties, they can rely on God to get His help and gain the faith and strength to solve them. But when people are facing difficulties and problems, they don’t know how to rely on God, and how to practice so they can get God’s help. This is something that many people have deeply experienced. So how should we rely on God to get His help when we encounter problems and difficulties? God’s words point out the way of practice for us.

God says, “You must be proactive in cooperating with Me; be diligent, and never be lazy. Always fellowship with Me and attain an even deeper intimacy with Me. If you do not understand, do not be impatient for quick results. It is not that I will not tell you; it is that I want to see whether you rely on Me when you are in My presence, and whether you are confident in your dependence on Me. You must always remain close to Me, and place all matters in My hands. Do not go back in vain. After you have been unconsciously close to Me for a period of time, My intentions shall be revealed to you. If you grasp them, then you will truly come face to face with Me, and you will truly have found My face. You will have much clarity and steadfastness within, and you will have something to rely on. You will then also possess power, as well as confidence, and you will have a path forward. Everything will come easily to you.

From God’s words, we can see that if we want to rely on God to get His help, we must actively seek to get close to God. Above all, we can’t be impatient for quick results when we don’t understand God’s will in something. Sometimes God arranges an environment for us to learn lessons, and He hopes that we can let go of our imaginations, notions and judgments, and handle the matters completely according to God’s will. Only in this way can we get help from God, gain clarity, and have the faith and know how to solve the problems we face. But many times we neglect to seek to understand God’s will while we are relying on God. Although we are saying prayers with mouths, we still rely on our own notions and imaginations to deal with difficulties and problems. As a result, we can’t gain God’s guidance and leadership, but even go against God’s will and do things to resist God. For example, at the end of the Age of Law, when the Lord Jesus came to do the work of the Age of Grace, the temple that once was filled with the glory of God and where believers worshiped God became a place for doing business and grew desolate and people lost the work of the Holy Spirit. In fact, this was because the work of the Holy Spirit had shifted. People could only gain the work of the Holy Spirit if they keep up with the work of the Holy Spirit, that is, follow the Lord Jesus. Facing the problem, the chief priests, scribes and Pharisees might pray to God, but they didn’t seek God’s will; instead, they resisted and condemned the work of the Lord Jesus based on their own notions and imaginations, and thus they were punished by God. As for those who followed the Lord Jesus such as Peter, and the Samaritan woman, even though facing the same problem, when they heard the Lord Jesus’ words, they sought God’s will and obeyed the Lord’s words. Thus, they got God’s help, kept up with the work of the Lord Jesus, received the supply of life, and solved the problem. Nowadays, great disasters have begun. It is a critical moment for welcoming the Lord’s return. Many people are weak in spirit, their prayers are not answered by God, and they cannot receive watering and supply in life. How should we seek God’s will on this matter? And how should we rely on God to solve it?
